How MSPs price their services
Most Australian managed service providers price per endpoint (a laptop, desktop or server) or per user, per month. Per-endpoint pricing is simple to understand and scales directly with your business. Some providers also charge separately for servers, network devices or after-hours work.
Xen IT pricing
Xen IT’s fully managed plans start from $150 per endpoint, per month. That includes SLA-driven helpdesk, 24/7 monitoring and patching, endpoint detection and response, email security, backup monitoring and testing, documentation, and quarterly vCIO reviews. Your exact price is confirmed after a free IT assessment.
What affects the price
The number of endpoints and servers; compliance requirements such as Essential Eight; how many sites you operate; after-hours or extended support needs; specialist line-of-business software; and whether you need co-managed support alongside an internal IT person.
Why the cheapest plan often costs more
Low-cost plans frequently exclude the security tools, monitoring and testing that insurers now ask for, then bill projects and after-hours work as extras. According to the Australian Signals Directorate’s Annual Cyber Threat Report 2024–25, the ACSC received over 84,700 cybercrime reports in the year, about one every 6 minutes. The average self-reported cost per report was $56,600 for small businesses (up 14%) and $97,200 for medium businesses (up 55%). A single incident can cost more than years of the difference between a cheap and a properly secured plan.
What an elite plan should include
A written response SLA; 24/7 monitoring; managed patching for Windows, macOS and third-party apps; EDR and application control; email security with DMARC, DKIM and SPF; MFA and conditional access; immutable, test-restored backups; full documentation; a joiner and leaver process; and a technology roadmap.
Questions to ask when comparing quotes
What exactly is included per endpoint? Which security tools are included and which cost extra? Is after-hours monitoring included? How are projects charged? What is the notice period? Can you show me a sample monthly report?
Cost versus value
The right comparison is not monthly fee against monthly fee. It is total cost, including downtime, staff time lost to IT problems, surprise project quotes and security risk, against a predictable fee with those risks managed.
