SharePoint is where shared company files live. There is no single "SharePoint program" to open - you reach the same files three different ways, and they all stay in sync.
Step by step
- In a browser. Go to microsoft365.com and sign in with your work account. Click the app launcher (the grid of squares, top-left) and choose SharePoint. Your sites appear under Followed and Frequent.
- Through Teams. Open a team in Microsoft Teams and click the Files tab. Those files are SharePoint - the same documents, shown inside Teams.
- In File Explorer on your computer. Open the document library in a browser and click Sync, or use Add shortcut to OneDrive. The library then appears in File Explorer under your organisation's name and you can work in it like any other folder.
- Find a site you have lost. In SharePoint, use the search box at the top, or ask whoever shared it to send you the link again.
If it does not go to plan
- "You need permission to access this site": the site owner or your IT team has to grant it. Use the request access button on that page.
- Sync is not showing files: check the blue OneDrive cloud icon near the clock for errors, and that you are signed in with your work account.
